Private label marine cleaning chemical manufacturing

Boat and yacht care products under your own brand. Salt residue, gelcoat oxidation and teak each formulated on their own terms.

Order terms

These three figures hold for every line. They are what you need before asking for a quotation.

Minimum order
2,000 units per product For labelled products. Where the can itself is printed it is between 5,000 and 24,000 units, because the printing plate is made once.
Sample
1 week For a product from the existing range and for a new formulation alike.
Lead time
4 to 6 weeks Counted from the approval of the formula and the label.

Four constraints that set a marine formula

A boat is a surface that sits in salt water and sun without a break. A marine care product has to work with both of those at once.

Salt residue

Sea water dries and leaves salt crystals behind, and those crystals speed up corrosion on metal and dulling on gelcoat. A salt remover is its own formula and a general shampoo does not replace it.

Gelcoat and oxidation

Gelcoat oxidises in the sun, yellows and goes flat. The product that opens that surface carries abrasive, and how fine the abrasive is decides the result. Too aggressive a product thins the gelcoat.

Teak and timber

Teak cleaning usually works in two parts: one component lifts the dirt and the greying, a second neutralises the colour of the wood. Teak cleaned with a single product raises the grain.

Marina rules

The product is often used where it goes straight into the water. Some marinas ask for biodegradability and phosphate limits, and where that applies the formula is built for it from the start.

Five things to decide before a quotation

With these five in hand, the sample and the pricing are settled in one round.

  1. 01

    Surface

Gelcoat, painted surface, teak, stainless fittings or interior upholstery. Each asks for its own product.

  2. 02

    Where it is used

Care done afloat and care done in the yard ask for different products. Afloat, the environmental constraint comes first.

  3. 03

    Biodegradability

If the marinas you sell into require it, say so at the start, because that requirement changes which actives can be used.

  4. 04

    Pack

Retail bottle, drum or aerosol. What is sold to a boat owner and what is sold to a service company ask for different volumes.

  5. 05

    Target market

The country the product is sold in sets the label language and the conformity documents.

Frequently asked questions

What is private label marine cleaning chemical manufacturing?
It is having the formulation, filling, labelling and packaging of boat and yacht care products you sell under your own brand carried out at a manufacturing partner's plant.
Are the products safe on gelcoat?
For gelcoat products the fineness of the abrasive and the pH range are set separately. Too aggressive a product thins the gelcoat, which is why an oxidation remover and a routine care product are formulated apart.
Do you make biodegradable products?
Where the marina requires it, the formula is built for it. Because that requirement changes which actives can be used, it needs to be stated in your enquiry from the start.
Is one product enough for teak?
Teak usually needs two components. The first lifts the dirt and the greying, the second neutralises the colour of the wood. Cleaning with a single product raises the grain.
Which packs do you fill?
Retail bottles, drums and aerosols are the common options. Products sold to service companies tend to go into larger volumes.
